Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar Disorder (also can be known as manic depression) is a mental illness that can cause people to have various shifts in not only their moods, but also in their level of concentration and energy. According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), there are three types of bipolar disorder. They can range from periods of complete elation (Manic episodes) to periods of hopelessness (Depressive episodes).

Bipolar I Disorder contains manic episodes that can last for at least a week with depressive episodes that can last for approximately two weeks.

Bipolar II Disorder contains both depressive and hypomanic (manic episodes characterized with less severity) episodes.

Cyclothymia contains both hypomanic and depressive symptoms that can last for at least two years. These symptoms are generally not enough to be diagnosed as a hypomanic and a depressive episode. https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/bipolar-disorder#:~:text=Bipolar%20disorder%20(formerly%20called%20manic,three%20types%20of%20bipolar%20disorder.
